The Impact of Revised Breakpoints on Susceptibilities to Pseudomonas

Aeruginosa at University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) and the Creation of

Combination Antibiograms

Student Investigator

∙Wrote a proposal in order to gain Colorado Multiple Institutional Review Board

(COMIRB) approval for conducting the research study

∙Worked with lab technicians at UCH to retrieve all P. Aeruginosa isolates for the

2011 calendar year, including susceptibility data

∙Evaluated the impact on susceptibility for the isolates based on new breakpoints

for piperacillin/tazobactam established by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards

Institute (CLSI)

∙Created the institutions first dual and triple combination antibiograms

∙Presented the research findings in power point format to faculty and hospital staff

including the Coordinator of Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) and Clinical

Pharmacy Services/ Chair of the P&T Committee at UCH, Gerard Barber

∙Invited by Mr. Barber to present my data to the infectious disease committee at

UCH who is considering using the information in the new hospital antibiograms

∙Worked directly with Dr. Swati and a protein-based investigational drug supplied by Genentech in order to find suitable formulations for drug delivery in pre-filled syringes

∙Created various pH and buffer solutions, fat emulsions and assays in order to study effects on the drug of interest
